Rudolf Buchbinder performs Schubert's piano trios with Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider (violin) and Gautier Capuçon (cello). The program features Franz Schubert's Piano Trio in B-flat major, D 898, and Piano Trio in E-flat major, D 929. It remains a mystery how Schubert's two great piano trios came into existence almost by accident. When the Es-Dur Trio was published in December 1828, Schubert was already dead, and the B-flat Trio did not appear until 1836. Yet the magic of both works captivates us to this day: they are timeless, always direct, and almost as if just composed. Buchbinder has fascinated by these trios throughout his career as a pianist. For the Grafenegg matinee, he has invited two congenial partners with whom he shares long-standing artistic friendships: Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider and Gautier Capuçon.
